Member Registration 13 Years, 10 Months ago
This website was initially intended to be solely a tool to gather & publish data on surviving models of Pontiac 2+2’s. When Larry Kosek ran the Registry back in the 90’s, it was done the “Old-Fashioned” way – no Internet, no email, all on paper, labor intensive. I suppose that’s why it didn’t continue. I figured it could be easily revived with a web-based home (not so easily, but that’s another subject). Over the last few months, the website has grown to be more than just a Registry. We’ve incorporated a forum, we’re hosting articles, photo’s, video’s & links which should prove to be a valuable information resource for owners and those who don’t own a 2+2 but want to share in the knowledge and lore of these legendary cars.
In developing this site, we did not anticipate the need to provide for non-owners to be able to register without distorting the accuracy of the Registry itself. Those non-owners who wanted to join were forced to register with a “fictitious” car. The unintended consequence was that the Registry contained false data, compromising its integrity.
Therefore we've changed the registration process slightly, to distinguish between 2+2 OWNERS and SITE MEMBERS. The privileges for both types of registration are identical, except owners & their cars will be listed on the Registry, and they may post photo’s of their cars. Non-owners will have forum posting privileges, and voting rights on any polls.
Here’s how it works: Everyone can register by clicking the button at the top of the home page. You will be prompted with the following – “If you do not currently own a Pontiac 2+2 but wish to register, select "None" from the pull-down box of the required car-related fields. Leave all optional car-related fields blank."
So non-owners are encouraged to register, but we ask that you not detract from the accuracy of the Registry by entering dummy VIN’s. Just select “none” where required. Those owners who have a problem disclosing their car’s VIN may enter XXX at the end , but will be asked to verify 2+2 ownership prior to registration approval.
Our intent is not to discourage registration, or discriminate between owners & 2+2 fans, but to protect the Registry data. That is, after all, the primary purpose of this website.
Thanks!

A point of clarification on registering - our intent is to record how your car left the factory, so that eventually some statistics can be compiled on percentages of cars equipped with certain options, etc. So please be as accurate as possible in describing the car as it was manufactured when filling out "Car Basics". If there have been intervening color/drive train/option changes, please note those in the "Additional Information" field under "Car Details".
Also, more complete VIN's would be helpful.

The Registry website has now been active for seven months. After going live, we quickly encountered an unanticipated problem - the software did not allow for registration of multiple 2+2's by one owner (a car "problem" we all should have!). Every effort was made to find a technically simple and cost-effective solution to this issue, but we finally determined that an inelegant work-around would have to suffice.

I quote Don Potter @ Garnet design Group, our webmaster:
"The registry module, Community Builder, is tightly linked: each user (car, in this case) must have a unique email address. There's no getting around it.
The only solution is for multiple-car owners to register each one separately, using a unique e-mail address. The user names should probably be entered something like pontiacguy1, pontiacguy2, etc. This isn't a perfectly clean approach -- but I don't think it's a huge deal, either. It affects a relatively small number of owners -- and e-mail addresses are free. And this way, the number of cars shown in the registry will continue to be accurate (as opposed to showing only the number of owners)."

So the bottom line is that you multiple 2+2 owners will need to go to a bit more trouble to register your stable. For each additional registration, please use your original user name followed by a digital suffix, and a different email address. I hope this extra effort is not an obstacle, as our goal is to record every 2+2 out there.

Thanks,
Jack
